Tips on Creating a Great Room for Your Kids
If you’re planning to decorate your kids’ room(s), you need to know that it can easily get out of hand. With so many ideas and designs now available online, it’s really hard to choose the one that would suit both your loved ones and yourself. Then there is the budget you’ve allocated, which often doesn’t cover all the unexpected expenses caused by late additions to the design.

While each design solution will depend on the age of the kid, whether you have a boy or a girl, and how much money and effort you can invest in renovation, there are some generally accepted trends that you should be aware of. Some of the tips are quite simple and you can pull them off without hiring assistance, while others definitely require expert’s help. The bottom line is that the room should be functional, comfortable and trendy. So, let’s take a look at some of the latest trends:

Colours
Most kids love having a lot of colours in their room, especially bright ones. You may want to allow them that, but make sure you don’t overdo it and create a chaotic atmosphere. On the other hand, there are more and more designers pushing black-and-white combinations in kids’ rooms, with just some details, such as curtains, in other colours to break the monotony of this traditional combination.

Storage
One of the most important elements is storage. With today’s kids having much more toys, games and puzzles than us at their age, you need to create sufficient storage space to keep all those things. You may decide to display toys like an art installation on floating shelves. This will help you kid know exactly where to find their favourite toy.
On the other hand, you can opt for boxes, which are clearly labelled and have lids. You can keep them either on the floor if the room is big enough or on some high shelves. People usually keep those toys that are not so often used in such boxes.

Furniture
Apart from the obvious elements, such as a bed, wardrobe and possibly a desk, you could think about introducing some other items of furniture. For example, small couches or armchairs, or even better regular-sized ones, will be very decorative, but also quite useful.
Also, you might do it with a twist. A hanging chair would allow your kid to swing and twirl, which would be a lot of fun, but you need to make sure that it’s properly fixed to the ceiling and that your kid can’t launch themselves across the room.

Floor
Kids’ rooms tend to get quite messy and dirty and it’s important that the floor cover is easy to clean. Also, if you are thinking about introducing a fashionable floor rug, make sure it’s made of durable and natural materials.

Creative nook
Having a creative corner in their room, your child will be inspired to develop its artistic talents. You could use a window nook for this purpose and install some shelves, to which you can attach mason jar lids from below. The supplies can be kept in transparent jars that are easily accessible.

Chalk paint
One of the most fashionable ideas is to use chalk paint on your furniture. This allows you to clearly label drawers and cupboards. If the surface is big enough, you kid can also draw or write whatever they want and change it as often as they wish.

Modern bunk
Instead of the traditional bunk bed, you can get creative and build a modern one with stairs leading up to the upper bed, while at the same time concealing storage space. This is probably a project that requires professional help, though.

Designing a modern room for your kid is important, since you want them to spend time in a place that is their own and where they feel comfortable. In order to do that, you need to know what kind of space young ones these days want and adapt it to your situation, but it’s worth the trouble.
